Somewhere in my files (from the 35mm era) is a photograph I took with Dan Fogelberg in 1991 following his concert at Sangamon Auditorium in Springfield, Illinois. Dan passed away today at age 56 after a long battle with advanced prostate cancer. The photograph with Dan was one of my first celebrity photos. I vividly remember attending the show and then waiting hours (at least two, maybe three hours) after the show for Dan to emerge. His guitarist, Robert McEntee, provided me with updates throughout the wait, telling me Dan was having dinner with his Mom. A limo appeared to pick-up Dan's mom for her ride back to Peoria. Then, a few minutes later, Robert came out and told me Dan was coming soon. Instead of using the stage door, Dan hopped off the loading dock, but came over my way to sign an autograph and take the photograph. I remember Dan was wearing a sailing jacket and cap and had a gigantic smile in the photo.

In corresponding with Robert later that year via mail, he surprised me by including one of Dan's guitar picks and the original set list used by Dan in St. Louis, Missouri, during the recording of "Dan Fogelberg Live: Greetings from the West." It's still one of my prize possessions.
